November is almost here, and our Motherwell training centre has a busy programme for people responsible for transport compliance and operator licensing. You can choose Operator Licence Awareness Training (OLAT), a Transport Manager Refresher, Road Haulage or Passenger Transport Manager CPC training, and CPC mock tests.
The brochure below shows the full range of what we offer; the sections after it cover the November dates in detail.
Both CPC sectors are available. That matters if you work in passenger transport: not every training provider offers the Passenger Transport option. The programme finishes with mock-test preparation from 30 November to 3 December, followed by exam day on 4 December.

1. Operator Licence Awareness Training: Wednesday 11 November
Who needs OLAT? It is a one-day course for people whose decisions affect an operator licence. That can include directors, company owners, managers and admin staff. It is also suitable for holders of a Restricted Operator Licence.
The Traffic Commissioner increasingly asks operators to provide evidence of transport management experience or completion of OLAT. Training can help you understand the responsibilities connected with your licence and the part you play in meeting them.
Open Road Training offers OLAT as an examination centre, with a choice of an Ofqual-regulated qualification or an attendance-only option. You may also be able to include 7 hours of Driver CPC, subject to eligibility and requirements. Contact us to discuss the options and pricing.
This is a single scheduled date, so if OLAT is on your to-do list, don’t leave booking until the paperwork starts giving you that look.
2. Transport Manager Refresher: Thursday 12–Friday 13 November
Are you already a Transport Manager and need to refresh your knowledge? This two-day course is suitable for both Road Haulage and Passenger Transport professionals. It is built around DVSA expectations and the questions an auditor will actually ask, not a presentation marathon.
You will review the responsibilities and compliance evidence that matter in practice. The aim is to help you consider what you would show, explain and do if your systems were being examined.
The Senior Traffic Commissioner’s Statutory Document 3: Transport Managers explains the importance of continuing professional development. It says that where it has been some time since CPD was undertaken, a two-day Transport Manager CPC refresher course is the starting point for evidence.
The course costs £350 plus VAT. You may also be able to add Driver CPC hours for each day attended, subject to eligibility and requirements — contact us to confirm what applies. This is also a single scheduled date, so early booking is sensible.

3. Transport Manager CPC: Road Haulage and Passenger Transport
Are you working towards the Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence? Our November programme includes training for both sectors:
- Passenger Transport: Monday 16–Wednesday 18 November and Thursday 26–Friday 27 November.
- Road Haulage: Thursday 19–Friday 20 November and Monday 23–Wednesday 25 November.
The Transport Manager CPC is the professional qualification for people who need to demonstrate competence in managing road haulage or passenger transport operations. You can train for the sector relevant to your work or the role you are planning to take on.
The dates above show the course blocks as scheduled. If you are interested, contact us to confirm the exact delivery format and any preparation you should complete before attending. We’ll help you work out which course and sector fit your plans.
Examinations are through Skills and Education Group Awards (SEG Awards), a recognised awarding organisation. Exams take place at the centre on the scheduled exam day.
Candidates on Transport Manager CPC training may also be able to add up to 35 hours of Driver CPC for £100, subject to eligibility and requirements. CPC course prices are available on enquiry.
4. Mock tests and exam day
Getting close to your Transport Manager CPC exam? Four days of Road Haulage and Passenger Transport mock test preparation run from Monday 30 November to Thursday 3 December. The scheduled Exam Day is Friday 4 December.
Mock tests give you time to practise and identify areas to revisit before the exam. If you are preparing for either sector, contact us to confirm the arrangements and availability. Mock-test pricing is available on enquiry.
And yes, the exam day has three exclamation marks in our diary too. We’ll let you decide whether that’s excitement or a reminder to bring your best revision notes.

5. Which course is right for you?
- You are a director, owner, manager or admin team member: OLAT can help you understand how your decisions affect the operator licence.
- You are an existing Transport Manager who needs recent CPD: ask about the two-day Refresher course.
- You need a Transport Manager qualification: choose the Road Haulage or Passenger Transport CPC course that matches your intended role.
- Your CPC exam is approaching: the mock-test preparation may help you focus your final revision.
Transport Manager training is an important part of building and maintaining a competent operation. If you are unsure what you need, get in touch before booking. We’ll talk through your role, sector and training options.
6. Training in Motherwell and booking
All the listed training takes place at Open Road Training Ltd, 29 Hope Street, Motherwell, ML1 1BS. We’re opposite Motherwell train station, making the centre easy to reach from Glasgow, Lanarkshire and across Central Scotland.
